Threads created by thread milling, thread turning, tapping, or thread whirling must meet and exceed the rigorous standards and tolerances set by the oil and gas, automotive, medical, and aerospace industries. Find the insert and/or grade here for achieving high-quality thread profiles with excellent chip control and surface finish.
Our carbide threading inserts good for Low carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, High carbon steel, Alloy steel , Adjusting quality steel, Stainless steel, Cast steel, Cast iron,Aluminium alloy and copper alloy machining.
Threads can be machined using the different methods thread turning, thread milling, tapping, or thread whirling—each having their different machining advantages and considerations. Nevertheless, when it comes to all things threading, we share our knowledge here.
There are a variety of threading methods and tools suited to different components, thread profiles, and pitches. Each threading method and tool has its own advantages in certain situations.
To help you successfully perform productive and high-quality threading, we have provided the following recommendations and tips.
a. Initial considerations for threading
These initial considerations will affect the choice of threading method and threading tool as well as how they are applied.
b. The thread
Consider the following dimensions and quality demands of the thread to be machined:
External or internal thread?
Thread profile (e.g., metric, UN)
Thread pitch
Right- or left-handed thread?
Number of thread starts
Tolerance (profile, position)
c. The component
After considering the features, look at the component:
Can the component be securely fixed?
Is chip evacuation or chip control a critical issue?
Does the material have good chip-breaking properties?
Component batch size. Mass production of threads may justify using multi-tooth inserts or an optimized Tailor Made tool to maximize productivity
Single or multi-thread
d. The thread form
The thread profile defines the geometry of a thread and includes component diameters (major, pitch, and minor), thread profile angle, pitch, and helix angle. See definitions.
The most common thread forms and profiles are shown below.
Threading methods
Each threading method has its own advantages in certain situations.
